In Memoriam

Pat Cardwell joined our firm on May 1, 2023, and passed away unexpectedly on August 7, 2023.  Although he was with us for a short time, Pat quickly became an important and valued member of our litigation team with his gregarious spirit and legal acumen, and Pat will be deeply missed.

Pat Cardwell was a Pender & Coward attorney focusing his practice on franchising business and litigation matters, commercial litigation, government contracts, corporate transactions and security clearance matters.  He represented franchisors and franchisees in all aspects of the franchise process including preparation and filing of franchise disclosure documents, franchise sales, compliance, termination and litigation.  Pat also represented clients in a variety of commercial litigation matters, government contract matters and corporate transactional matters.

Before joining the firm, Pat served as general counsel for Realogy Corporation, the franchisor of six of the most recognized brands in the real estate industry: Coldwell Banker®, Century 21®, ERA®, Sotheby’s International Realty®, Better Homes and Gardens Realty®, and Coldwell Banker Commercial®. In total these real estate companies had approximately 15,000 company-owned and franchised offices in the US and around the globe.  After 10 years with Realogy, Pat worked in private practice representing franchisors and franchisees in various industries.  Pat also cofounded Zippy Shell® which conducts a moving and self storage business under the Zippy Shell and 1-800-PackRat® brands, and he has provided various legal services for the company.
